"Million will be at each other’s throats and in the process, they will strip this place barer than a swarm of locusts. The depredations of the last compressed into three to four years and extended over the entire continent; famine, disease, the universal lapse into barbarism, both of the armies and the people, in the wake of acute misery; irretrievable dislocation of our artificial system of trade, industry and credit, ending in universal bankruptcy; collapse of the old states and their conventional political wisdom to the point where crowns will roll into the gutters by the dozen, and no one will be around to pick them up."

Best, Gregor

“A few moments later, when the leading British line was within 100 yards, the rattle of machine gun and rifle fire broke out from the whole front of shell holes.
"The rain drives on, the stinking mud becomes more evilly yellow, the shell holes fill up with green-white water, the roads and tracks are covered in inches of slime, the black dying trees ooze and sweat and the shells never cease. They alone plunge overhead, tearing away the rotting tree stumps, breaking the plank roads, striking down horses and mules, annihilating, maiming, maddening, they plunge into the grave, and cast up on it the poor dead. It is unspeakable, godless, hopeless. I am no longer an artist interested and curious, I am a messenger who will bring back word from the men who are fighting to those who want the war to go on for ever. Feeble, inarticulate, will be my message, but it will have a bitter truth, and may it burn their lousy souls." (Paul Nash).

Thanks for watching.

"In the cold, sallow, ghostly light of dawn…a trench appears into which a devastating bombardment has just descended. A poisonous sulphur yellow pool glistens in the depths like a smirk from hell. Otherwise the trench is filled up with hideously mutilated bodies and human fragments. From open skulls brains gush like thick red groats; torn-up limbs, intestines, shreds of uniforms, artillery shells form a vile heap ... Half-decayed remains of the fallen, which were probably buried in the walls of the trench out of necessity and were exposed by the exploding shells, mix with the fresh, blood covered corpses. One soldier has been hurled out of the trench and lies above it, impaled on stakes."

So it was on autumn days in the trenches south of Soissons.

My favorite guitarist of all time - Shawn Lane. A tragic story, but a brilliant mind. This stuff had my jaw on the floor when I first heard it. Jonas Hellborg and Lane together were something else - I highly recommend some of their live videos on youtube. This is were I learned my craft.

Much respect. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Lane

Gregor Dochertytag:gregordochertymusic.com,2005:Post/64017482020-08-04T18:15:46+01:002022-08-15T14:45:24+01:00What doesn't kill you makes you stronger; and what kills you makes you incredibly strong
I have some down-time now as Fraser (http://www.fraseredwards.net/) complete's the work on producing my album.

So, some source material for you all whilst final track revisions take place (c>3 months). I must recommend this book if you are at all intrigued by WW1 (I have an undergraduate degree in history - they don't teach this in the academy). I've read Falkenhayn's and Lundendorff's memoirs - this is far more important than those revisioinist retellings.

Storm of Steel. This book was very popular/lauded in the Third Reich - it served the purpose with regards to placing the soldier as the 'first person of the state' ie the 'Übermensch' and additionaly, brutalising an entire society. They missed the mark by an unfathomable amount - there is utterly no glory or politics out there (...Sabaton...). This is just a basic description of exactly what it was like in the trenches. It's fucking aweful stuff (Guillemont 'field of body-parts').

It's a vicirial account of the horrors of the common man in the trenches in WW1, experienced first hand. Nothing sentimental. Nothing glorious. Nothing political. Just farmhand's thrown into the maw. It's dreadful. I would also recommend Alastair Horne's 'The Price of Glory' if you enjoy this. It should be read for context alone, as Hitler was also in the trenches in these battles. This is were humanity lived, or died.

A chapter sticks with me. The Great Battle. March 21st, 1918. German Stormtropper's conceading admiration that the Kilt-wearing Cameronian's were 'real men', having just killed many of them in hand-to-hand combat, is frightful. Also, the no-mans-land scene - you will just have to discover that for yourselves.

More content soon - Best, Gregor

I'd like to pay homage to Alastair Reynolds and the Revelation Space Universe here (my top recommendation, if you are into sci-fi). Although, I could not find a source/artist for the image (please contact me if you are reading this so I can credit your awesome work).

I fell away from the genre - this brought me back.
No audio update for now - sorry - will do one in August.

Whilst the world rewrites its own history, just a quick post to let you all see something which I consider a very important historic artifact (free to watch on you tube). Much of my new music (incoming very soon :) ) is loosely based on WW1 between 1916-1918, ie the 'materialschlact' - to coin a phrase from Ernst Junger, "Chivalry here took a final farewell. It had to yield to the heightened intensity of war". This film (properly placed in 1930 when it was made, note for the propoganda cue's) is the best WW1 film I have ever seen. All I can say is, it's not comforatble viewing, but vital at the same time. Good people in times of evil. Yet, these are hard times for everyone.

"This Western front business couldn't be done again, not for a long time. The young men think they could do it again, but they couldn't. They could fight the first Marne again, but not this. This took religion and years of plenty and tremendous sureties and the exact relation that existed between the classes. The Russians and Italians weren't any good on this front. You had to have a whole-souled sentimental equipment going back further than you could remember. You had to remember Christmas, and postcards of the Crown Prince and his fiance, and little cafes in Valence and beer gardens in Unter den Linden and weddings at the Mairie, and going to the Derby, and your grandfather's whiskers....

This was a love battle - there was a century of middle-class love spent here.... All my beautiful lovely safe world blew itself up here with a great gust of high explosive love...."

There is one very big reason for that.

I am delighted to announce that I have just completed writing my next album. It has taken a fantastic amount of time, but I have really put everything that I've got into this. Everything.

I don't want to spill too many details yet, but I can tell the following. I have close to 2 and a half hours worth of music ready to record. I will be recording this album across two discs and this is a concept album. There will be 11 songs - every song exceeds the 10 minute mark and 2 songs are around 20 minutes long.

I can reveal that part one will be called 'As Dawn Betrays Us' and part two will be called 'Through Storms of Steel'.

I have stockpiled everything necessary and all is now in place. There are a few teaser clips on my instagram which you can check out and I will be posting more soon.

This will be tough, but I can't wait to begin.

Thanks for now, Gregor

Some brand new song clips in the video - hope you enjoy!

This guitar is perfectly design. You can tell the skill of the guitar maker by the small details - scale length is perfect, action could not be lower because of the recessed bridge, access to all the upper frets due to the cutaway. The Pickup combination is spot on and allows for an extremely diverse array of tones to suplement the crushing metal. Volume and pickup selectors are out of the way. You simply cannot get more extended range guitar for this price. This guitar really shines in terms of playability for the highly technical guitar player and is one of the classiest and easiest to play 7 string guitars I have come across.

Would just like to say a special thanks to all of my fans for supporting my music and making this year the best for my music so far! My website just passed 3,000 unique visitors this year! I couldn’t have done it without you!

2015 has been a phenomenal year for me. With the release of my double album 'The Revelation Stockpile' and 'Alexandria Before the Fire', 2015 has been far more successful than I ever hoped! I will be exclusively playing these guitars from now on, with my new main guitar the Avenger 7 Pro 26, which I cannot wait to get playing!

These unique instruments are crafted - not manufactured. The Avenger 7 Pro With innovative design features including recessed Tone Pro locking bridges, combining set thru neck designs, locking Grover tuners, 26 inch scale length, 9 piece maple neck and directly mounted Seymor Duncan Pickups. If you are serious about extended range guitars, you must check these out!

Jericho Guitars from Texas are renowned by artists and studio engineers alike, specialising in extended range guitars. Jericho Guitars are designed and perfected in Texas, USA. We hand select the finest quality of woods from a reserve stock in Vancouver, British Columbia, we then send the raw woods to our factory in South Korea to be cut and routed. These finished bodies are sent to Texas where we do final assembly and check every cut to make sure our vision for the guitars is fully rendered. This method of “ping-pong manufacturing” allows us the freedom to offer the highest form of quality components and quality woods to our customers at a fair price.

Stop by and check out these extraordinary guitars from their website: http://www.jerichoguitars.com/

I will be making a brand new demo of the Avenger 7 Pro, with two brand new performance videos for the songs 'The Background Radiation' and 'Postcards from Hell', including a cover video. I have begun work on all of these projects and these will be released very shortly! I am 70 % complete in the writing of The Willing Flesh debut album, tentatively titled 'As Dawn Betrays Us' and I cant wait to begin recording and playing live with this!

I wish to say a special thank you to Dave and all at the Jericho Guitars team, the guitars look utterly outstanding and cant wait to get going! Will hopefully be picking up a new 8 string in the next year. Companies usually have poor artist relations in terms of development (ie. how many views a youtube cover will get), but Jericho are clearly a company as passionate about their guitars and music as I am. I couldn't be more delighted to be part of the team.

Stay tuned for brand new videos, including pictures of the guitar.

4Gregor Dochertytag:gregordochertymusic.com,2005:Post/38180022015-08-13T17:47:50+01:002022-04-12T18:35:55+01:00The Scarecrow's Lament - Single now available The track The Scarecrow's Lament from my album is now available to stream! Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? It’s a healthy mix, as I find that how people ‘consume’ music is so diverse these days. Be it, on mobile phone or chilling out for a long listening session. The older stuff is cool, like discovering new stuff that appears to be lost in time. As an example, I recently discovered a band called Haji’s Kitchen, which is now one of my favorite bands.

Have just received the new RC Jazz Pick’s and I have to say, the best jazz pick I have ever come across. The cheese holes are not cosmetic, but allow your thumb and index finger to better hold into the pick until it is an extension of your fingers rather than a clumpy object. This amounts to far more control and increases grip massively. The bevelled edges give a brighter attack than standard plectrums, topped with the use of a far superior materials, which allows alternate picking to sound seemless. This brightness gives far more dynamic range, where you can easily ‘snap pick’ aggressively like shawn lane, eliminate the percussive sound on your picking strokes if you need and play harmonics far easier than with any dunlop jazz model which I have used throughout my career. This is truly the evolution of picks for guitar, which for a player using a lot of techniques is massively important. A great testament to a designer who truly understands the mechanics of playing and importance of every detail. I could not be more impressed!

I will be posting new youtube videos shortly putting these through their paces, but can already see an improvement in my picking technique. I can not recommend these enough, if you have been using jazz III’s for years religiously like myself, you must try these out. Will love to see how the larger 2.0 mm ones sound!

Thank you Swiss Picks for your support!

http://swisspicks.com/

Gregor Dochertytag:gregordochertymusic.com,2005:Post/36628512015-04-17T09:34:52+01:002022-04-12T18:57:35+01:00New reviews for '...On a Pale Horse'Got some reviews for the song 'On a Pale Horse' done through tunecore, some really cool feedback! Check it out!

...On a Pale Horse - reviews

"When the music turns on its instant energy from the guitar. Then, it adds a little roughness toit, which is great. This song sound professional. I can tell a lot of effort was put in on this song."

"The vibrant sound of rock streams perfectly from the instrumental as soon as the track plays. The sound of the heavily strummed guitar and the well pounded drums go hand in hand. The beat is awesome. I like the clear sound of the track as it plays along. The duration is perfectfor listeners to enjoy the track. The composer created a spectacular piece with this track."

"The instrumental is energetic due to the extreme fast drumming which will surely give youadrenaline rush. It is so so so fast. The electric guitar was played with pure perfection and the playing was so fast and portrays the amazing work of the artist. This song is suitable for gaming or gym. Its just so good and so nice."

"Strong intro, exotic guitar. Great harmonizing in the beginning. Good, thick beat, but the lack of vocals is troublesome. It sounds almost Egyptian, and with lyrics could be amazing. All it truly needs are vocals, without it sounds unfinished and unpolished."

"I like this track. Immediately, I wanna start head banging. I love that rapid repeat firing of the drums and the bass. The bass lines are reminiscent of Metallica. They are very complex. It sounds like a mesh between Metallica and Dragonforce. Two bands I love. I would have liked to have had lyrics with this, but the music is great. This would be a great track for Wrestling."

"Guitars at the start are very power metal, it could go country rock or full metal. I really dig this chugging riff at the start, its got a very Bullet For My Valentine sound. Oh my lord, I'm headbanging as I write this review. Sounds like many circle pits would be started live to this, I would love to see this played live."

"At fist sounded like Devour The Day then I got lost in the riff. I LOVE IT! The drum beat held miraculously and everything just tethered perfectly. The shredding of the guitar was aweinspiring. GIVE ME MORE! The sound was whole, goal seat, shot for, and hit."

"The electric guitar solo in the beginning is intriguing. It draws you in and then the slow addition of the drum beats gets your heart racing just slightly before an all out rage. You can't help but head bang along to the song. It has incredible strength the beats. Everything builds off itself."

"Great song. I think that the artist really knew what they were doing when they made this track. I am not sure what the name of the artist or the song is yet but when I do find out i am most definatly going to find more music by them. I liked te artist pitch and tone of voice as well as word selection from the lyrics. Also had A very good instrumental."

"That pumping guitar! I loved it, it sounded so sick, doing its riff and all, just amazing stuff. It goes on for quite a while until the drum comes in, sounding like something from slipknot. The bass was very heavy with the drum which was also a good thing. Then it gets rough, heavy, and the typical heavy metal strumming starts. Very amazing stuff. Got me jumping off the walls! Very energetic."

"I love the heaviness and boldness of this track, with the precedence of a strong rhythmic beat set by the bass and electric guitar from the intro. The loud instruments are combined in quite a complex manner to create an intensity that moves the listener. The pace of the melodic rhythm, takes time to build up and changes rapidly in energy."

"Oooh my god that GUITAR! I'm... I'm pumped. It's nice and exciting. I'm ready for this song. The drums are very... enticing. They are just seducing me and I want to explore this music... My ears are ready. Holy moly that drummer can sure drum fast??? That's hot. I'm really enjoying this so far- whoa another guitar. This is nice, this is really nice. Normally instrumentals aren't my forte- or this genre at ALL isn't my forte- but I enjoy this."

"As soon as this song started to play I wanted to bang my head in heavy metal delight; my joy springing from the electric guitars and drums making raucous yet awesome music together."

"The guitar player in the beginning is really technically proficient! The part sounds difficult and he plays it masterfully. I like the build with the drums coming in just a bit at first and then building. The intensity of the song is great, it would be perfect for a tough workout session at the gym. Good intense driving tempo. The guitar is the star here, that part is all over the place and he nails it. I am impressed. I like how the song just builds and builds, it really gets your heart rate up. I don't think this song needs any lyrics, it drives home the message effectively as is."

If you would like to review my new albums or know of any reviewers I could contact, please send me a message.
Gregor Dochertytag:gregordochertymusic.com,2005:Post/36575182015-04-14T19:47:15+01:002022-08-15T14:51:14+01:00New merchandise & plansNew merch is on the way!

Got some kick-ass new tshirts made up, merch store will be up soon.
